Hi Alana, first off, thanks for posting all this helpful information. I'm wanting to join the Health Informatics field somewhere here in Canada. I have 15+ years experience in healthcare. I was wondering, do you feel that taking a program in Health Informatics would be beneficial? If so, what are your thoughts on a a certificate vs a diploma vs a masters? Thanks!

Hello Shar,

Thanks for your message! I have done my degree in Biomedical Engineering so I cannot comment on a specific program in Health Informatics. However, I believe it would be more beneficial since you already have clinical experience, if you are still affiliated with a hospital or healthcare organization, to see if they have a Business Intelligence or Clinical Decision Support department and make connections with colleagues there either in-person or through LinkedIn. I have found it really helps if you have a contact to transition to a job in this field. Please see a directory of Health Informatic programs here https://nihi.ca/listings.php?ListType=HIMProgram&MenuItemID=655

You can email me at healthanalyticinsights@gmail.com if you have further questions.

Thanks,

Alana
